Functions

​​​​​​​The staff of the Histology Service play a vital role in supporting biomedical research. Their main duties include:

  •     Fixation and preservation of tissues.
  • Embedding of tissue in paraffin or O.C.T. (for frozen samples).
  • Preparation of histological sections using a microtome or cryostat.
  • Performing histological staining: Haematoxylin/Eosin, Sirius Red, Nissl, Oil Red O, Masson’s trichrome, PAS, Perls. *Other stains may be performed if the user provides the specific dyes required.
  • Monitoring of equipment.
