ASPIRA-CSIC "Sagrario Martínez Carrera"

The Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Sols-Morreale Receives the ASPIRA-CSIC "Sagrario Martínez Carrera" Distinction

  • With this recognition, the IIBM reinforces its commitment to excellence and establishes itself as a leader in biomedical research in Spain and internationally

The Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Sols-Morreale (IIBM), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), has been awarded the ASPIRA-CSIC "Sagrario Martínez Carrera" Seal of Excellence. This recognition, granted within the framework of the MaX-CSIC Project, acknowledges the quality and impact of the research conducted at the institute and enables it to advance on its path toward scientific excellence. The IIBM had previously obtained the ASPIRA-CSIC "Josefa Barba" distinction in May 2024, as part of the first phase of this progressive evaluation program, along with 39 other CSIC centers. Now, out of those initial 40 centers, 29 have successfully passed the second phase and have been recognized with the ASPIRA-CSIC "Sagrario Martínez Carrera" distinction.

The distinction is accompanied by funding of up to 300,000 euros, which will support the implementation of the Excellence Plan designed by the IIBM for the next three years. This plan focuses on strengthening its strategic research lines, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, enhancing its international leadership, and promoting the transfer of knowledge to society.

The MaX-CSIC Project (Framework for Self-Assessment and Evaluation of Scientific and Social Excellence-CSIC) is a CSIC initiative aimed at promoting self-assessment and continuous improvement in its research centers and institutes. It is structured into three progressive phases of evaluation and financial support. In this second phase, 29 CSIC centers have received the ASPIRA-CSIC "Sagrario Martínez Carrera" distinction, while another 35 have passed the first phase and obtained the ASPIRA-CSIC "Josefa Barba" distinction. In the third phase, the CSIC Scientific Advisory Committee will evaluate the impact of the DEEP-MaX program in each center, and those receiving a positive assessment will be awarded the ASPIRA-MaX "Margalida Comas" Seal of Excellence, the highest recognition of scientific excellence granted by the CSIC.

This recognition represents a significant step forward in establishing the IIBM as a leading biomedical research institute, committed to scientific excellence and its impact on society.
