Doctoral Thesis Award to Ángel García Aldea

The Madrid City Council presented last Saturday, November 27th in "La Nave", the Awards in Talent Recruitment in Technological Innovation to the best doctoral theses and master's theses presented in 2020 in Madrid Universities in the field of innovation.
Dr. Ángel García Aldea, from the Thyroid Hormones and Central Nervous System group at the Biomedical Research Institute "Alberto Sols" (CSIC-UAM), was awarded the runner-up prize for the best doctoral thesis related to technological innovation and its application to biomedical specialties, for his work on "Pathophysiology of MCT8 deficiency: studies in humans and mice". The doctoral thesis highlighted the relevance of the characterization of new therapeutic targets and methods for monitoring the progression of a rare and orphan disease called Allan-Herndon-Dudley Syndrome, or MCT8 deficiency, using magnetic resonance imaging techniques. His work is part of the general purpose of the research group to progress in the knowledge of this disease, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life of patients.
These awards aim to connect the University with industry and business through the practical application of the results of scientific research; rewarding the best technological innovation projects, which incorporate in their development new tools that can be applied to various disciplines such as health, mobility, productivity improvement, climate change, security, human resources management, etc. These awards also aim to make visible young scientist that could serve as an inspiration to young people.
