Hearing Impairment Research on World Hearing Day

An outreach event entitled "Research: the key to progress in the diagnosis and treatment of hypoacusis" was held on March 10 , on the occasion of World Hearing Day. This online activity - broadcast live and accessible to people with hearing impairment - was attended by a representative of the Word Health Organization, who presented for the first time the 2021 WHO World Hearing Report, with alarming data on the prevalence of hearing problems and estimates of an increase in the coming decades. This presentation was followed by an interesting colloquium on hearing loss research with representatives from the World Health Organization, hearing loss patient associations, pharmaceutical companies, clinicians and basic researchers. To conclude the event, an outreach video directed to raise public awareness of hearing loss, was displayed.

This event was organized by the Neurobiology of Hearing group (IIBm CSIC) - CIBERER U761 unit with the collaboration of the AG Bell International Foundation, the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM), the National Museum of Natural Sciences of the CSIC and the pharmaceutical company Spiral Therapeutics. The recording of the event and the video are already available on HearingMadrid youtube channel, as well as on the CIBERER website.
