Curso de investigación con modelos experimentales y las 3R

Advances in research with experimental models: the future of the 3R

The Neuropathology of Hearing and Myelinopathies research group of the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Alberto Sols (IIBM), CSIC-UAM, led by Dr. Isabel Varela has organized the course "Advances in Research with Experimental Models: the future of the 3Rs", in collaboration with the Colegio de Veterinarios de Madrid (COLVEMA) and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). The course lasted three days and was held in a hybrid format (face-to-face and online). The course was very well received, with more than 200 attendees, mainly biomedical professionals interested in learning about the latest techniques in research with experimental models and future alternatives to the use of animals.

The course featured prominent speakers in this field of research, including several members of the Plataforma de Biobancos y Biomodelos del Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCiii), as well as the Animal Models working group of the Center for Biomedical Research Network on Rare Diseases (CIBERER). The course has been highlighted for the outstanding scientific level of the lectures and the active participation of the students, fomenting the exchange of knowledge and the debate on the ethical implications of research with animal models, the future perspectives of alternative methods and the application of the 3Rs principle.
