The Indirect Calorimetry and Energy Metabolism Unit (UCIME) utilizes a Phenomaster system composed of a series of cages for rats or mice which include sensors to determine metabolic parameters by indirect calorimetry. The parameters that can be determined are: food and water intake, motor activity, oxygen consumption, CO2 production, respiratory exchange ratio and energy expenditure. The system serves as a technological platform for the Ciber of Diabetes and Matabolic Diseases (CIBERDEM).
